“Do not come and roam here unless you are willing to be enslaved by its charms. Its beauty and peace and harmony will entrance you. Once it has you in its power, it will never release you the rest of your days.”
I came across this quote in Eric Blehm’s book The Last Season— Gordon Wallace was a Ranger in Sequoia National Park from 1935-1947 and this quote is from his memoir My Ranger Years.
Wallace was most definitely referring to the Sierra backcountry, but I urge you to get out there and EXPLORE. Find the place that sinks its hooks into you, a place that fills you with peace and beauty and harmony– whether it is the mountains, the desert, the ocean, the prairie– and spend time getting to know it, let it hold you in its grip and keep calling you back. Let Nature feed your soul!
